Details:
The Infrared Creative Retreat & Intensive is a cohort-based creative experience dedicated to black-and-white infrared photography. The program uses infrared as a creative constraint — a way to slow down, see more clearly, and build more intentional work. It combines a 3-month online bootcamp with a 4-day field retreat in Southern Utah, offering a structured progression in seeing, creating, and refining through the medium of infrared.
The program is centered on creative progression and personal voice — with technical support woven in wherever participants need it. Participants move through the bootcamp in two-week cycles — shooting one week, editing and reflecting the next — accumulating work, insight, and direction. By the time they arrive in Southern Utah, they are photographers with a defined project and developing vision, ready to go deeper in a diverse landscape that offers a rich supply of infrared-friendly subjects.
The Breakdown
Part I: The Infrared Creative Bootcamp (12 Weeks, Online)
A structured progression through six two-week cycles, each following the same rhythm: Shoot (Week A), Edit (Week B), and Reflect. Six live calls anchor the experience — five before the in-field retreat (a Welcome Call and four Check-Ins) and one post-workshop integration call. The bootcamp is organized into four phases: Foundation, Composition & Interpretation, Personal Direction, and Refinement & Preparation. Weekly commitment is approximately 1–1.5 hours.
Part II: The Southern Utah Field Retreat (4 Days, In-Person)
Eight photographers. Four days. One shared house in the heart of Southern Utah. Days are spent in the field — shooting, observing, and advancing individual projects via two Jeep Gladiators with access to Zion National Park and BLM land throughout the region. Evenings return to the house for group critique, image feedback, and editing sessions. The retreat is intentionally small and unhurried, creating the kind of creative exchange that only happens when you are fully immersed in a place and a practice.

Nic Stover
Nature Photography Collective was founded in 2021 by Nic Stover, a lifelong entrepreneur and passionate nature photographer based Invermere, British Columbia. Originally from Carbondale, Colorado, Nic now teaches photography classes, leads workshops, and curates educational events that help others create more meaningful, impactful images.
Since going pro in 2020, Nic spends over 90 days a year in the field and has traveled to all seven continents. Still, it’s the familiar places—like the Canadian Rockies, the High Sierra, and the Desert Southwest—that fuel his creative journey most deeply.
Through Nature Photography Collective, Nic hosts a speaker series with top educators and runs the Inspired Creator Grant, which has awarded over $20,000 to photographers building deeper connections with the natural world.
His mission is to help nature photographers confidently express themselves through their work—focusing on creativity, emotion, and connection. Classes explore everything from composition and light to color theory and black & white photography, with opportunities for all skill levels to grow.
