Details:
Caddo Lake is unlike anywhere else you’ll point a camera. A flooded cypress forest draped in Spanish moss, still black water, and light that shifts from soft and diffuse at dawn to high-contrast and dramatic by midday — it’s a technically challenging, visually rich environment that rewards photographers who know how to work a scene.
This retreat puts you in a kayak and gives you direct, independent access to the lake. No waiting on boats, no fixed vantage points — you move where the image is. Combined with structured instruction, daily image review, and a small group of 8, it’s designed to push your work forward in a setting that demands your full attention.

Book NowWhat We’ll Work On
Caddo Lake is a layered environment — reflections, wildlife, atmosphere, and structure all in the same frame. Over four days we’ll cover:
- Reading and working with a variety of light conditions
- Composition in a cluttered, non-linear landscape
- Reflections and water as a compositional element
- Post-processing workflow for swamp and low-light environments
What Makes This Workshop Different
- Kayak access — go where your instincts lead you, not where a boat drops you
- Small group of 8 — direct feedback, no one gets lost in the crowd
- On-water and classroom instruction balanced across the week
- A location with genuine photographic range: landscape, wildlife, abstract, and everything between
This is a working workshop. You’ll shoot hard, review honestly, and leave with a stronger body of work and a clearer sense of how to build on it.
