Details:

Caddo Lake is one of the most visually arresting landscapes in the South — a flooded cypress forest draped in Spanish moss, where the water is still, the light shifts quietly, and something new reveals itself every hour. This retreat puts you in a kayak and sets you loose in it.

Designed for women photographers who want more than a checklist workshop, Reflections is a small-group creative retreat limited to 8 participants. You’ll explore the lake at your own pace, with the freedom and flexibility that only comes from being on the water independently — and the support of an intimate group working through the same creative questions you are.

What We’ll Explore

Caddo Lake rewards patience and observation. Throughout the retreat we’ll work with what the place offers — still water, cypress reflections, soft early light, quiet wildlife — and explore how to translate what you’re feeling into images that are genuinely yours.

  • Seeing beyond the obvious subject
  • Working with reflection, repetition, and abstraction
  • Responding to mood and atmosphere rather than conditions
  • Letting go of literal interpretations and finding your own visual language

Creative techniques — including intentional camera movement (ICM) — will be introduced as tools for expression, not endpoints. Each offers a different way to read the same scene.

What Makes This Retreat Different

  • A slower, more reflective pace with real space to think and observe
  • Emphasis on personal interpretation over technical instruction
  • Small group of 8 — more one-on-one time, deeper conversation, genuine connection
  • A collaborative, non-competitive, women-only environment
  • Kayak access gives you full autonomy on the water — go where your curiosity leads you

This is not a checklist-driven workshop. It’s an experience designed to help you see more clearly, work more intentionally, and reconnect with why you create.

Who This Is For

This retreat is a good fit if you:

  • Are comfortable with your camera and basic settings
  • Feel drawn to quieter, more interpretive work
  • Want to explore new ways of seeing without pressure or judgment
  • Value connection, conversation, and shared creative experience
  • Are looking for a reset, a new direction, or a chance to refine your creative vision

What You’ll Leave With

  • A deeper understanding of your own visual tendencies and strengths
  • New approaches to familiar and unfamiliar scenes
  • A small, meaningful body of work from the experience
  • Renewed creative energy and direction
  • Connections with a supportive group of like-minded women photographers
