“Harnessing Patience and Presence” International Speaker Series
Develop mindfulness, creativity, and connection in your photography
In a fast paced modern world, the art of slowing down and noticing the subtle details around us is often overlooked. The power of observation and patience is a key component to cultivating a photographic practice that aligns creativity, confidence, and self-expression. Join for a speaker series featuring world leading photographers with decades of experience dedicated to learning how the mindful photographer harnesses patience and presence. This is an amazing opportunity to delve deeper into the connection between self-awareness and impactful image-making.Â
This is guaranteed to be an incredible International Speaker Series where you will hear from 4 speakers over the course of a month, each talking about their unique approach to photographing abstract details, finding their inner voice, imbuing images with meaning, and an appreciation for weather (rain or shine). Kai Hornung teaches “Seeing Beyond - finding meaning in the chaos of nature”

In this presentation, Kai Hornung explores how ambiguity and emotional resonance can bring greater depth to nature photography. Inspired by Minor White’s idea to “photograph for what else it is,” he shows how moving beyond literal representation opens space for interpretation and dialogue. Instead of merely depicting what lies before the lens, images become invitations — evoking feeling, memory, or imagination in the viewer.
Kai will share how slowing down and seeking meaning in your photography transforms the act of photographing — turning it into a more personal, fulfilling connection with both nature and one’s own creative voice.
Bio:
Kai Hornung is a part-time professional landscape photographer, speaker, and mentor based in Hanover, Germany. Coming to photography from music and the corporate world about a decade ago, he has since developed a visual language defined by emotion, and personal depth. His images range from intimate, abstract details to wide, dramatic landscapes, always seeking to create photographs that invite emotion rather than simply depict.
Alongside his artistic work, Kai is a sought-after mentor and presenter. He regularly shares his approach to photography in workshops, talks, and online programs. His presentations have inspired audiences at renowned events on- and offline. Through teaching and speaking, he encourages photographers to discover a more personal connection to nature and creativity.
Kai has previously presented "Finding Small: Your Own Creative Journey" for Nature Photography Collective, where he shows how to shape your own artistic voice, develop a unique style, build confidence in your own work and receive practical advice for improving your photography to make it more personal.

Lizzie Shepherd teaches “Whatever the Weather… Why Seasons Matter”

Landscape photographers often have seasonal preferences for the places and subjects they like to photograph; but what are the differentiators that make us appreciate what each season has to offer? An exploration of how aspects such as weather, colour, light and form shape our appreciation of the landscape.
Bio:
Lizzie is a professional photographer from the UK, specialising in landscape, nature and travel. For the last decade or so, she has loved sharing her thoughts and experiences of photography through small group workshops, writing and presentations. Photography has been part of her life for many years, and she particularly values the way it has helped her really to see and appreciate the natural world. She loves spending time in the landscape, looking for more abstract and unusual interpretations of the places she visits. She is increasingly drawn to more complex scenes and believes that one of the absolute joys of photography is that it helps you really to open your eyes, to develop your vision and to keep searching for ways in which to express that vision.
