We all have creative scars; past criticisms that have led to perfectionism, procrastination, or a harsh inner critic. Perhaps you are feeling stagnated in your photographic journey. Finding creative confidence is not about the absence of fear, but the ability to act alongside it. If you’re seeking meaning in your photography, this transformative program is designed for you!

The Creative Confidence Photography Mastermind Group is a 12-month program designed specifically to help you engage deeply in your artistic why, discover a refined creative voice, and foster a sustainable community of peers. Our focus is supporting you on your creative journey towards confident personal expression. Distinct from technical competence, creative confidence is the belief in one’s ability to navigate the ambiguity of the creative process.* We’ll learn about navigating the creative process through the practice of techniques and ideas such as Miksang, visual journals, Intentional Camera Movement, both “photo sprints” and slowing down, and storytelling. Additionally, we will address: finding your vision (how and why your perspective is unique), developing your observation skills, working through vulnerabilities and blocks, constructive critique, and cultivating a curious mindset. While all genres are welcome, the focus is on landscapes and nature.

Teachings from our monthly sessions will be put into action through a series of creative exercises performed in-between meetings. Time for image sharing, brainstorming, coaching, and feedback is integrated into these monthly group sessions. Additionally, participants will design a personal photography project to work on throughout the program. At the end of the year, the program culminates in a final project sharing celebration.

(* Our focus is on camera-based and photographic processes. While good camera craft will be discussed and taught, this curriculum values the artistic process over the final result, emphasizing play, discovery, and experimentation. We will not be exploring AI programs, platforms, or tools, except for editing tools in Lightroom and Photoshop that assist with fine-tuning and bring efficiencies to image processing.)

Why the Mastermind Group?

A mastermind is defined as an intimate group of peers working toward common goals, characterized by shared values, mutual support, and accountability. Finding inner confidence is a challenging path that many struggle to navigate on their own. This program is designed to provide you with a roadmap for profound transformation within an intimate supportive community setting where each participant is on a similar journey to you. Each month, we will gather to engage as a collective group, sharing your work and discussing personal photographic development. The space will always be nurturing and positive, yet challenging, encouraging vulnerability through a curriculum that values the artistic process over the final result. All participants are encouraged to engage fully in the learning process, sharing their ideas, experiences, and photographs. This is a program about depth, not breadth.

Purpose

To cultivate introspective creative processes as a means of discovering intrinsic motivations, developing a personal creative voice, building confidence, expressing vision, as well as provide tactics for creative resilience and facilitate overall artistic growth.

Who it's for

Any photographer seriously interested in developing their unique creative vision. You’re looking to transform your creative mindset through structured learning and are seeking a community for honest feedback, sharing, and risk taking.

What the year looks like

The mastermind integrates three core delivery mechanisms: group sessions for community and collective learning, one-on-one coaching for personalized deep-dives, and structured self-directed practice for skill development.

Each month, you’ll connect via Zoom with a close-knit group of fellow photographers in live video sessions designed for real conversation and meaningful exchange. Together, you’ll learn from one another, share work, offer feedback, and engage in ongoing dialogue about your creative growth.

For every topic, there will be a series of Generative Exercises that include skill-building, nature-based exercises, and personal growth resources to watch, read, or listen to; reflection questions related to that month’s topic; and a photography exercise that gets you out and experimenting. You’ll bring your learning, questions, and images to each session for a facilitated group conversation.

Meet Murray Livingston, your Mastermind Facilitator & Mentor

Murray Livingston is a South African full time nature and landscape photographer specialising in storytelling and long-term projects in wild places all over the world. Murray’s teaching philosophy is centered around a deep appreciation for nature’s wonder, learned through careful observation and developing a conversation between the photographer and wildness. While Murray loves travel and adventure, it seems more important than ever to appreciate locality and find a spiritual or existential connection to nature in your immediate environment.

Murray holds two masters degrees in Architecture from the University of Edinburgh, from which stems his skills in constructive criticism, working in group studio environments, and education. Since his shift to full time photography, Murray has coached and provided feedback to world renowned photographers; his goal is always to inspire confidence, and create a space where we can all share our honest feedback and grow together.
