“The 4 P's of Photography” Speaker Series

A Practical Roadmap to Sharing Your Work with the World: Prepare. Present. Print. Publish.

One of the questions I pose to you is “What question should I be asking you that I am not.” The answers were fantastic. But a recurring theme was around: "What do I do next with my work?"

  • I have amassed a fantastic body of work what next?
  • Should I be sharing my work with more people?
  • How do I go about sharing my work the best way?

So, with no further ado, I present to a 4-part series on Preparing, Presenting, Printing, and Publishing your Work.

  • On October 29th, we start the series with Nature Photography Academy Founder, Meredith Fontana, on a most important topic: Crafting a Distinctive Photography Website. It doesn’t matter if you have a well-polished site or are thinking of creating your first website this presentation is loaded with dozens of questions and considerations that well help you save time and get the desired outcome for your website.
  • On November 5th, we continue the series with my most popular class: Preparing Your Images for Print where I walk step by step through all of my consideration to help you assess what images are ready for print, what changes you might want to make to get them ready, and how and where you can get your images printed. I will be joined by Nathan St. Andre as he offers insights and tips from his over 10 years of selling work at art fairs and what goes into printing.
  • On November 13th, our 3rd stop on this journey is the must-watch presentation topic on How to Create your own Zine. What is a Zine? A zine book, or zine, is a small, self-published booklet, typically low-budget and DIY, created for sharing personal narratives and niche interests. Murray Livingston will talk through how he goes about selecting images, establishing a narrative for the work, printing them, pricing them (if you want to sell) and how this can be done rapidly and cost effectively.
  • On November 20th, our final presentation I will be joined by Joshua Cripps who has won awards in all of the top photo contests on this planet (and two other planets...) to talk about of all things Photo Contests. I get the question quite frequently from people on if they should consider doing photo contests and my answer is, “It Depends”. Together we will walk through defining your goals, understanding the HUGE range of contests, how to evaluate your work for submission, and help you to define your goals.

All sessions will be presented LIVE at 4:00 pm PT / 7:00 pm ET

Printing your work can be an overwhelming process but is extremely rewarding to see your images on the wall or to have the confidence to sell your work to others. We will spend this time together to give you the confidence to print your work on different sizes, on different mediums, and from different companies. These topics we will review will help you assess what images are ready for print, what changes you might want to make to get them ready, and how and where you can get your images printed.

This mini workshop goes into great detail on the following topics.

  1. Learn through a review of the top mistakes made in printed images.
  2. Explore color calibration and why it is so important.
  3. Get an in depth look at cropping and what are the standard sizes you would consider.
  4. Discover more through an overview of the various print materials you might want to try and what types of images look the best on them. For example, if you are doing wood, what would you consider, or how about for an acrylic print?
  5. Hear my past experiences from trying different print companies and who are the various print companies I would recommend and who would I not recommend.
  6. Explore more about what color spaces should you be working in and what are ICC profiles?
  7. Learn from my demonstrations of how to be best sharpen and resize your images.
  8. Receive step by step demonstration of how I prepare my images for print.

Photography Contests – The Why, When, and What

Many of you ask questions about photo contests and what to expect or if they are right for you and your photography / photography goals. So I recruited our friend Josh Cripps to join us on a presentation / discussion on factors to consider when it comes to selecting your work to align with the right avenues.
Some of the things we will cover in this talk.

  1. What are some of the various contests out there?
  2. What to expect in a local / regional / national / international contest.
  3. Why you might want to enter a contest.
  4. Why you should not enter a contest.
  5. How you can find the ones most aligned with your goals and also the type of work you represent.
  6. If you decide to enter, what kind of work should you select including ways to understand if your images align with the judging process.
  7. How to prepare your work for submission

Expect to learn a ton from two professional photographers on what goes into their considerations for when / what / why to submit. Bring all of your questions and lets dive into photography contests!
